Aluminium is known for its low density and for its ability to resist corrosion. It’s highly used in the aerospace sector and is important in other areas of transportation. Due to its strength to weight ratio.

Rapid Metals carry a wide range of aluminium grades they are as follows:

Aluminium Alloy – Commercial Alloy – 1050A

We carry stock in:

Also known as: 1050 / 1050A – H14

1000 series is essentially pure aluminium with a minimum 99% aluminium content. We carry 1050A in sheet its advantages being corrosion resistance and workability. It has low mechanical strength compared to other grades that we carry. It can be strengthened by cold working, but not by heat treatment.

Aluminium Alloy – Commercial Alloy – 2014A

We carry stock in:

Also known as: 2014A – H15 is a high mechanical strength alloy

2000 series is alloyed with copper and can be hardened to strengths to match some steels. Formerly referred to as duralumin, 2014A combines high strength with good ductility and machining. It’s not recommended for welding and has poor durability.

Aluminium Alloy – Commercial Alloy – 5083

We carry stock in:

Also known as: 5083 – NS8

5083 aluminium alloy is an aluminium alloy with magnesium and traces of manganese and chromium. It is has a very good resistance to saltwater and industrial chemicals. Alloy 5083 is excellent for welding and machining.

Aluminium Alloy – Commercial Alloy – 5251

We carry stock in:

Also known as: 5251 – NS8

Aluminium alloy 5251 has good ductility and therefore good formability. It is a medium strength alloy which work hardens rapidly and is resistant to marine atmosphere. Very good for welding and good for machining.

Aluminium Alloy – Commercial Alloy – 6063

We carry stock in:

Also known as: 6063 – HE9

6000 series is alloyed with magnesium and silicon. 6063 is mostly used in extruded shapes for architecture, particularly window frames, door frames, roofs, and sign frames. It is typically produced with very smooth surfaces fit for anodizing. 6063 can be machined and is weldable.

Aluminium Alloy- Commercial Alloy – 6082T6

We carry stock in:

Also known as: 6082T6 – HE30TF

6082 aluminium alloy is an alloy in the wrought aluminium-magnesium-silicon family. It is usually formed by extruding. Very good for welding and machining and is one of the strongest alloys in its series, also one of the most popular.

Aluminium Alloy – Commercial Alloy – 7075T6

We carry in:

Aluminium alloy 7075 is an aluminium alloy, with zinc as the primary alloying element. It is strong, with a strength comparable to many steels, and has good fatigue strength and average machinability. The down side is it’s not as corrosion resistant as other alloys and can be expensive.
