We stock solid copper round bar in a range of diameters to suit your needs and give you exactly what you’re looking for. To this we add our bespoke cut-to-length service, allowing you to specify the length of copper round you need to the millimetre. This will minimise on-the-job work and wastage for you, our customer.

Rapid Metals stocks copper round bar in diameters of 1/4" to 1 1/2” in Imperial, or 10mm and 20mm in metric. We can source other sizes from our network of suppliers and partners, so if you need a specific diameter of round copper that is not listed on this page, please contact our team.

Copper bars are widely used for producing electrical equipment, especially busbars, connectors and terminals. Copper round rod can also be used for high-capacity electrical conduits. Earthing connections or grounding rods are another electrical application where copper round rod is well-suited.

Heat exchangers and radiators often make use of copper bar, either ‘as is’ or drilled or cut for use as pipework and other fittings. Copper round bar can also be used as the basis for plumbing fittings, valve gates, taps and other parts.

Copper round can be used in the manufacture of sleeve and roller bearings, as well as sleeves, pins, bushings, sealing rings and other mechanical parts. Copper round bars can also be machined into components such as spacers and connectors.

Copper’s attractive appearance has long made it a popular choice for interior decoration, and copper round rod or bar can be used as the basis for finished items such as kitchen fittings, furniture parts and door latches.

Copper round rod has a good strength-to-weight ratio, a highly desirable level of machineability and excellent thermal and electrical conductivity.

Copper boasts exceptional corrosion resistance, forming a distinctive surface green patina when exposed to moisture and weathering which protects the body of the metal underneath.

The low electrical resistance of copper, combined with its malleability and ductility, makes it the preferred material for wiring and other electrical conductors.

However, these qualities, combined with copper’s low melting point, make it very tricky to weld. Welding copper round bar requires specialist techniques and equipment. Copper does respond well to soldering and braising.

Copper is a soft metal, often considered too soft to be easy to machine. For machining, copper can seem ‘gummy’ and prone to ‘smear’, making accurate cutting of fine detail or threads difficult. But these properties make copper bar very malleable and ‘workable’ for flattening or shaping into simple shapes.
