Steel Threaded Rod

Threaded rods – also known as threaded bars or Booker rods - have many uses, across commercial construction and domestic projects.

Many of our customers use threaded rod to cut their own bolts and screws, whether this is so they can be the exact length they need for a specific task, or simply so they don’t have to purchase ready-made bolts from external suppliers. Threaded rods also have structural uses, being used to support and connect components, materials and assemblies. They can be used to mount internal facings to structural walls, secure drop ceilings or bind metal, concrete or wooden structures together.

Plumbers and electricians often use threaded bars or threaded rods to secure pipes and conduits, especially when suspended in roof spaces, wall cavities or above drop ceilings.

DIYers can find a multitude of uses for threaded rods, such as constructing shelving units or furniture or as part of an industrial-look room with exposed and functional elements.

A steel rod with thread connects or fastens two materials together. This means the steel rod must be strong under tension, especially where the thread is cut.

Our rod with thread features precisely cut Metric Standard threads, ensuring smooth engagement with nuts or similar fixings and the ability to transmit and hold all loads suitable for the diameter of the bar.

A 6mm threaded steel bar has a proof load of approximately 450kg, while a 20mm threaded steel rod has a proof load of 5000kg or more. A suitable safety factor must always be considered within these loads when choosing your threaded rods for a particular application.

Our threaded bars are made from BZP mild steel. BZP stands for Bright Zinc Plated, meaning the finished and screw-cut bar is electroplated with a thin layer of zinc to provide a moderate level of protection against corrosion, as well as a bright appearance.

BZP metal is suitable for uses where the material won’t be exposed to long-term harsh conditions, such as enclosed, indoor or sheltered uses in mild climates. In prolonged outdoor or exposed use, the zinc coating will gradually wear away and the steel will start to corrode.
